Spring is here, but living in the colder regions can mean mens fodra hats need to top of the ensemble just a bit longer. Mens Fedora Hats still remain one of the most fun hats for men to wear. You are going to find a lot of plaids and fabrics perfect for the new warmer weather. The old gamblers hats have been showing up at a local casino.

I have had several emails lately asking about the Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier tattoo art shirts. As this is mainly a hat shop blog, I hesitated to include the shirts, but the art is so fantastic, and we already carry the caps, so thought I would go ahead and add a private page for those of you who want access to the shirts.
They are quite expensive in the specialty shops, which is to be expected. The designs take a great deal of time to create, and the printing process is very precise. To own a shirt by these two designers is the same as owning an art print. The only difference is that you actually get to wear it. Whether you own a truckers cap or a shirt, a certain amount of care does go into these items. Although they are extremely well made, you would not want to just toss them in a washing machine and hope for them to come out looking good as brand new. Most companies recommend turning the shirts inside out before laundering in cold water on the gentle cycle. Air drying is best, but they can be fluff dried in a dryer on a cool setting to take out some of the wrinkles. You will not want to press over the design as heat will disturb the design on most all shirts. If it becomes a must, use a low setting and a press cloth between the iron and the shirt.
The skull and roses design pictured above is markedly Christian Audigier’s most famous trademark of design. Brilliant detail and color go into each piece he creates. Enjoy seeing what we found for all you who enjoy tattoo art shirts.
If you are just a bit more sporty and want to create a look that exudes your personality, try the Gatsby cap. Gatsby by any other name would include the newsboy, driving and golf hats. The Gatsby is taking a leap forward and making an appearance that is quite pleasing to quite a few age brackets. Some are a bit more daring by using wild designs or buckles and plaids. Several others have actually incorporated a bit of a retro style to them that I remember as being incredibly popular as the ‘In’, hat to wear golfing or driving around in a
sporty little convertible. The nice part about the Gatsby caps is they come in lots of different weights of fabrics, so no matter what section of the world you live in, one will fit your climate.
The Gatsby will cost quite a fair penny in department stores as they become more and more popular this year. If you ever watch ‘Ghost Hunters’, you may have already notices that one of their younger ghost hunters is already wearing a funky new Gatsby.
The one in the bold design above seems to be quite popular with the younger generation or anyone who wants to create a new look. It fits a bit closer to the head, which makes it appear well formed and made just for your head size and shape.
Our store has located many hats at some pretty good prices. Compare the prices of the styles you like before purchasing your new Gatsby. You will find them in our store in the index under; Gatsby-Driving-Golf, caps. Bookmark us and keep a watch for even more of a selections as they are released by the designers.
Crushable hats are a great way to keep a man on the go stylish and his hat looking in tip top shape. They are perfect for packing in a bag or even a pocket. You just pop them out, reshape them with your hand and off you go. Most are made of fine felt, but fabric and straw are also fun crushable hats. Many of the straw hats can be rolled and tucked in a beach bag, ready for use with the snap of the hat. They work fantastic for traveling.
Crushable hats such as the Christys of London Hat shown, will work for a good portion of the year if you are in climates that have four seasons. The brim is a good size and will look correct on most men. Other options are available for those in warmer climates. Christy’s of London hats are probably one of the most sought after for quality. They are made one at a time of fine felt materials by top hat makers, and last for a long, long time. They are meant to take the rigor of a busy schedule.
A man needs hats in his life for all occasions and should include at least one or two crushable hats that fit into a busy lifestyle. If you are not a hat type person, there are also many great crushable caps that can be reshaped and look good use after use.
Why on earth would anyone walk down a busy street looking like they just left the trapping trails, or the lumber industry of the beaver swamp. Yet, you see those big old hooded red plaid caps with flaps pulled clear down around the ears emanating Elmer Fudd more and more often these days. Perhaps it is just because they are darn right warm, and baby, it’s cold outside. So, I must concede and acknowledge that it is not always about style, but the warmth of a hat.
There is also a lot caps and hats that provide warmth, but also have a lot of head turning, style. It is called Sheepskin hats and caps. You can go as expensive or inexpensive as your wallet can afford and chances are, you are going to look a whole lot better then in the plaid Elmer cap.
In so telling you this, I must admit that my husband has a Russian version of the Elmer hat and it is pretty classy looking. It is all one color and the fur is extremely soft leather. My advice for Elmer hats is to get one that is not red plaid! I live in the northwoods, but personally own a lady’s sheepskin hat and find it to be very warm.
One point to note for winter hats is that if you allow a space between the top of your head and the top of your hat, it gathers the heat your head gives off and keeps you warmer much longer. A tight fitting hat or cap does not allow for heat to circulate. The cold air penetrates straight through the hat, or cap material and on to your head.
Here is just one little extra trick I learned years ago while ice fishing, and it came from an old timer who used the trick every winter. Hot candies. Find a store that sells peppered candies, or make them yourself. A quick batch can be made by using jalapeno peppers chopped up and added to melted almond bark or chocolate chips. Pour out on a cookie sheet and stick a few in a snack baggie for the road. Store in Refrigerator so they do not spoil if using fresh peppers. Your body will tingle with warmth from head to toe!
You can find a few sheepskin hats and even a sheepskin Ivy cap by Scala at:http://swankyshatshop.com/Store/sheepskin

As history progresses, tippling sticks, otherwise known as walking canes, are once again regaining some popularity. Normally, vintage to antique sticks are for collecting only. Knock off replicas are appearing more often as the finishing touch of formal wear. As of yet, the spats have not reappeared, but if you do not have a walking cane to complete your formal attire, you should get one. Also the coachman’s hat is on the rise. It is shorter then the top hat and considered appropriate for formal events.
The heads of tippling sticks came in many forms. They could be a palm knob or extremely fine carved ivory. Silver laid over a wood carved figural head, or just pain hand carved wood. Sticks, or canes are now a staple for those requiring a bit of balance. Some even come as folding canes so they can be quickly placed out of the way.
Women can also find a walking stick that is either vintage or new. Normally the head of the stick was made to fit into the palm of a woman rather then a man. Modern canes for women are even found to color co-ordinate with their wardrobes.
Modern canes seem to be taking on a look all their own. Some resemble a miniature totem pole more then a cane, while others are embedded with cut glass beading or mosaics. Hand carved canes often fall into a category of folk art. Detailed carved heads of both animal, fowl and humans. Some realistic and others distorted.
Walking canes are now a very integral part of formal attire, so expect to see our glitzy, dapper gents walk the red carpet with fine walking sticks.

Wool Pin Stripe Lined Hats
I had a few emails asking if there were wool fedoras that come lined. The answer is a resounding Yes, and they can be found at very cheap prices. Wool lined Fedora hats are the ticket when it comes to staying warm, but looking cool. The pinstripe is one hat that goes with a nice black or off black to gray wool coat. I found several on Ebay selling for around $16. You can not beat that price!
I can not emphasize enough that you do not have to pay top dollar to get high end hats. Go to the sources that place them in front of you for a fraction of the cost and pick up a couple colors. Naturally brown and black are the main two that pretty much go with everything, but with the vast array of styles, your choices are endless. You can pretty much pick up a cheap hat that is a perfect match for any style of fashion you want to polish off with a hat.

Sugar Daddy Is Back!
Take notice, the Sugar Daddy hats are back on the market. Bright purples and reds and who knows how many other colors. As with everything, what goes around, comes around, and it appears the sugar daddy hat has re-entered the room.
In my youthful days we called them something else, and I noticed several sellers are actually naming them ‘Pimp Hats’. It wasn’t just to uncommon to see these worn on a fella who knew how to strut his stuff. He walked right, talked just so and dressed to impress the ladies. Fur or faux fur coats and those wonderful sugar daddy hats. If it was your style, get giddy, they are back and selling! Somebody must be wearing them somewhere, so get yours before they vanish out of style again! You know, you have a good 8 months of winter, so you could be strutting proud as a peacock for quite awhile. You may want to have more then one color if you want to be known as the dressed to impress man about town.
